Native Austin-based rap artist and vocalist Anastasia Hera premieres a new music video for her bigger-than-life single, “Big Tuna,” with the Austin Chronicle today. “‘Big Tuna’ stands out as a statement of supreme confidence for melodic trap artist Anastasia Hera, who floats metaphors about aquatic ecosystems to describe her big-fish-in-a-small-pond mentality, while showcasing her southern swagger with talk of ‘Swangin’ out wide in the intersection,’” said the Austin Chronicle.
“Big Tuna” is the first single off her new EP “This is Anastasia.” The single dropped on April 30 and has since charted on Billboard’s “Mainstream R&B/Hip Hop indicator most added” chart and the Top 100 on the DRT Independent Chart ranking at #48 this week, as well as #157 on the DRL Global Chart. The track is also being played on Music Choice.
The new EP entitled “This is Anastasia” was released on May 20, 2021 and also came out on urban radio nationwide.
This debut EP was written by Anastasia and recorded over the course of three years at TrakMajors Studio with Tim “T-Mo” Moore and at Pleasantville with RJ Maine. The album features saucy production from uber-producer and frequent collaborator Ty on Da Track and is now available for purchase on Apple Music, Spotify, and Tidal.
“‘Big Tuna’ is about projecting confidence, ‘swangin’ out wide in the intersection,” Anastasia explains. “It’s about feeling like a big fish in a small pond. It’s about taking up space, making noise, and being unapologetic about who you are. ‘Big Tuna’ is how it feels to know what’s meant for me, and stepping proudly into my destiny.”
“It’s about wishing for more, working for more, striving for better circumstances, but I wanted to put it across in a slightly cocky way – like I’m feeling myself,” said Anastasia about the new track. “I know success is mine if I go after it and I wanted to say that in my own way of speaking as a southern woman and a native Texan.”
Anastasia discovered her passion for rap as a young girl in Austin where her father taught her to deliver MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech with a rhythm and clarity designed to get an audience on its feet. Learning the confidence required to deliver such a powerful message can take a lifetime. Anastasia found it as soon as she stood before a microphone.
As a rap artist and vocalist who gives an ode to the rap culture that she grew up listening to, Anastasia offers a confident delivery and fluid enunciation. With influences from hip-hop greats like A Tribe Called Quest and or Jay-Z, she is collected and clever, and unapologetically exudes her confidence and big energy throughout this new body of work.
“I aspire to write the way I talk,” explains Anastasia about the EP. “My goal with ‘This is Anastasia’ was to make the lyrics familiar, relatable, common…but not vulgar. On every song, I wanted the lyrics to feel like everyday communication. It’s poetry, but it’s accessible. Considering that, and the fact that all of the music was composed by producer Ty on da Track, listeners get a direct, cohesive journey into my state of being as a woman and an artist.”
With a catalog of five well-received projects, several successful genre-bending collaborations, multiple “Best Female Artist” nods (Austin Hip Hop Awards), recognition from media like KAZI, KUTX, Austin Chronicle, Austin American-Statesman, and dynamic performances (Sound on Sound Fest, SXSW, Urban Music Fest, Fun Fun Fun Festival, BabesFest, Hollins University Mayfest), Anastasia has worked to design and define her own niche within contemporary music. The principles of beauty, truth, freedom, and love are recurring themes in her music. She enjoys the mystery of metaphor. Her purpose is her voice. Her voice is her music. Her music is for the world.
“The recent radio buzz is exciting on a few levels for me,” said Anastasia.“There’s definitely the nostalgia for the glory days of radio, and the thrill of knowing that my work is being broadcast alongside the greats! Radio also represents an opportunity to reach new ears in new markets. It’s especially cool that we can pinpoint the markets where the single is taking off, so that I can see where I’m connecting with listeners.”
Anastasia has been especially in demand on FM stations in the Southeastern United States, such as KJMH 107 Jamz (Lake Charles, LA), KKST 98.7 Kiss FM (Alexandria, LA), and WJXM 95.1 The Beat (Meridian, MS).
Always one to go big, Anastasia has teamed up with world-class musicians, The Heroes, to develop her artful, energetic musical pieces for the live stage. “Anastasia and the Heroes” consists of Anastasia on vocals, DJ Porter on the keyboard, Tevin Keeton on drums, Chip Belton on bass, Josh Garcia on guitar and Luis Efren Hernandez on percussion.
With an eye to the future, Anastasia has recently aligned with So Bold Ent./Sony Orchard for consulting, management and content distribution, and RajiWorld LLC for live bookings, a firm step on her journey to the top. So Bold Entertainment/Sony Orchard will provide worldwide distribution for Anastasia’s music projects and has a partnership with Ekhohub.com who will provide her with global live Pay Per View Concerts, Video on Demand events and retail e-commerce endeavors. Her music will also be showcased alongside industry giants such as Brandy, Chance the Rapper, T-Pain, Cutting Crew and others.
