Paul Spence
Paul has worked in the industry since the film Fubar (which he co-wrote and co-produced, and starred in) premiered at Sundance in 2002. This led to a sequel and a TV series, and over a decade working in writer’s rooms. He’s toured the country multiple times with different bands, has produced three full length albums on major indie labels and composed music for three features and a tv show. It was in 2019 when he produced a podcast for the National Inquiry for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls that he gained a deeper perspective on indigenous issues, and his own place in the world. This journey of discovery (his father is Métis from the Red River Valley), coupled with fifteen years of comedy writing, led Paul to create Deaner ’89, a feature film filled with jokes and outrageous characters, but one that has a ton of heart and deals with the 60s scoop (Mongrel Films, 2024).
