Jesús Alemañy y ¡Cubanismo!

¡Cubanismo! bring the fire of the Havana dance floor, full of swaggering horn charts, brilliant harmonies and wild Cuban polyrhythms. From the irresistible traditional to the super exciting modern, their infectious music is the very heartbeat of Cuba itself, including iconic Cuban rhythms that keep the world dancing to this day, such as Mambo, Salsa, Chachachá, Danzon, Desacarga, Bolero, Rumba, Son, and Latin Jazz.

Led by Jesús Alemañy – a trumpeter who began his carrer with the legendary son music group Sierra Maestra at the age of fifteen - the group recorded their eponymous debut album ¡Cubanismo! in 1997 with historic producer Joe Boyd (Pink Floyd, Fairport Convention, Richard Thompson, REM, 10,000 Maniacs, amongst others) at the helm. They have recorded 7 Albums to date, including the 2008 release ‘Greetings from Havana’, which recieved a ‘Best Tropical Latin Album’ Grammy nomination.

"Cubanismo" means a word or phrase, which is specifically Cuban, something unique to the island and not common to the general Spanish culture of Latin America. It is a phrase the decribes this very talented and successful Cuban band to the core.

Honoring the 30th anniversary of ¡Cubanismo!, Jesus has now put together a new version of the ensemble. With himself now based in Merida, Mexico, Jesus has assembled the group using the best Cuban Ex-Pat musicians from his own ensembles as well as from Cuba's rich music and cultural heritage.
