Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers

Dwayne "Dopsie" Rubin is the prodigal son of Alton “Rockin’ Dopsie” Rubin - the historic Grammy-nominated zydeco music pioneer who is perhaps best known for his role in exposing zydeco to the world by collaborating in the 80‘s and 90’s with the likes of Bob Dylan, Cyndi Lauper and recording with Paul Simon on the song “That Was Your Mother” on Paul’s famed Graceland LP.

Following in his father's hallowed footsteps , Dwayne has recieved 3 Grammy  nominations of his own (with one Grammy win in 2022).  His acclaim as one of zydeco’s top current accordionists led to invitations for Dwayne to perform with The Rolling Stones at their 2024 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival performance and to record on Beyonce’s Album of the Year Grammy-winning release Cowboy Carter

Although inspired by tradition, Dwayne has developed his own high-energy style that defies existing stereotypes and blazes a refreshingly distinct path for 21st-century Zydeco music. This singer/songwriter and accordionist has performed worldwide since debuting his band, Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers, at age 19.

Dwayne Dopsie grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana, teaching himself how to play the accordion by watching videos of his father and Clifton Chenier and recording himself with a video camera and going back and watching it and paying over and over for hours until it was right.

Along with his crack ensemble The Zydeco Hellraisers, Dwayne and the band have more than 100 years of combined experiance playing Zydeco Music - and it shows in every performance.

The energy, true talent, and exuberance that Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers are classic Louisiana stomp-down zydeco at it's very best.
