SMUT PEDDLERS

It was early 1993 when Gish knocked on his neighbor's door to see if the guy living there wanted to play drums in his band, yet to be named. The guy said he was in a few bands already and didn't have time for a new one, but that Gish should ask his girlfriend, Julia. She played alright and wasn't in a band. One day Gish saw Julia coming out of the laundry room and said, "Hey, do you want to play drums in my band?" "Ok."

The rest was history. With Gish on bass and a guitar player already in place, John Ransom was the final piece to the puzzle that became Smut Peddlers.

Since that fateful day in 1993, Smut Peddlers have settled down with the line up of Gish, John, Julia and Scott "Prospect" O'Brien on guitar for a little more than ten years now.

Smut Peddlers started their own label, Ransom Records, and have released five of their six full length records, a ton of 7" singles on several different labels and songs on various compilations from all over the world. They have several U.S. tours and a European tour under their belt. With "anonymous" members of the band being sober, the band has a large following in the AA / NA community and have played some of the larger conventions. A trip to SXSW a few years back really created a new fan base of "kids" who were in car seats when the band first started.

Their latest release in July 2014, Going In, was the first release in about ten years and seems to be a fan favorite. The recording and production costs were 100% funded through a Kickstarter project. The fans really show up for Smut Peddlers. Their record release party at The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA promptly sold out and was a smash success.

The band has slowed down on touring with family life being important to all of them, but they have no plans on calling it quits. They are in it 'til the end!
